Iran Reports Heavy Student, Teacher Deaths in US-Israeli Strikes

(MENAFN) Iran has reported significant casualties among students and educators following a series of strikes attributed to US and Israeli actions that began on February 28.

According to Iranian education authorities, at least 345 students and teachers have been killed since the start of the attacks. This figure is said to include 278 students and 67 teachers, as cited in state media reports referencing ministry data.

In addition to fatalities, hundreds more have been injured, including 196 students and 26 members of education staff.

The reported damage extends beyond human losses, with widespread destruction affecting the education infrastructure. Authorities say that 933 schools have been damaged or destroyed, along with 54 administrative buildings, 17 cultural facilities, 36 sports halls, and eight student camps.

Overall casualty figures cited by Iranian sources place the total death toll from the ongoing airstrikes since late February at more than 3,300 people.

In response to the escalation, Iran is said to have carried out retaliatory strikes targeting locations in Israel, Iraq, Jordan, and Gulf states hosting US military assets, before a two-week ceasefire was later announced earlier in the week.

Separately, diplomatic discussions between Iranian and US representatives reportedly lasted nearly a full day in Islamabad, Pakistan, but concluded without any agreement being reached.
